I like action movies, especially ones where the story isn’t held captive to the special effects. I really want to tell you that “Wanted” is a masterpiece on film. I want to tell you that the story is engaging, well-told, and surprising. I want to tell you that this is a great movie.
But I can’t.
I have my reasons. Its not the acting; James McAvoy is terrific. Angelina Jolie was really good, and Morgan Freeman can do no wrong. The story has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing but it never had me wondering what I just missed. And The action scenes are top notch.
Its not that this isn’t a good movie. It’s a very good movie. But I’m afraid that the extreme violence depicted – the graphic, gory, and explicit shots of people bleeding, getting shot and stabbed and blown up – well, it was all a bit much for me.
If you can handle this type of thing, then by all means, please go see this movie. But if you don’t like blood and guts, then . . . well, wait for it to be shown on TBS in a few years. I just wish the filmmakers hadn’t put us in this predicament. I don’t think they needed to.
