I remember walking through the fairgrounds in the early morning before anyone was there. The smell of dew on the grass, the bittersweet odor of the livestock pens, and the faint aroma of grease and fair food lingered over the midway. The Arcade would open about 10 and I would spend most of my money playing video games. Then I would sit in the Stofcheck Funeral Home tent and watch the people go by.
I will be heading over again this morning after my shower, book in hand, ready to spend the day sitting peacefully, listening to the sounds, seeing the sights, and taking in the smells of my childhood. I love the fair.
